Noe Daniel Suriel, 29, was found guilty by jury on Thursday, June 9 for causing the death of Rene Antonio Hernandez Jr., 32, during the collision on Georgia Avenue on Sept. 6, 2019, according to the Montgomery County State's Attorney's Office.

Suriel speeding in a Dodge Challenger down Georgia Avenue when he struck Hernandez's Honda Civic as Hernandez attempted to turn left onto the entrance ramp to MD 200, authorities said.

Suriel swerved in front of the Hernandez, clipping the front end of the Civic. Camilo Jose Ahumada Serje, the driver of a 2014 Infiniti Q50S then struck the Civic and spun away. The Infiniti was then struck by a 2004 Ford Explorer operated by Regino Andres Gonzalez Pena, 38.

Hernandez was pronounced dead on the scene.

Numerous witnesses say that the Challenger and Infiniti were driving at extremely high rates of speed just prior to the collision and were weaving through traffic, accelerating heavily at green lights, and revving their engines at red lights. Pena joined the race in the Ford Explorer after it had already begun.

Evidence from the Infiniti's Event Data Recorder showed that the Infiniti had reached 106 miles per hour just seconds before the collision.

Camilo Jose Ahumada Serje pleaded guilty to manslaughter-related charges in Oct. 2021, and Regino Andres Gonzalez Pena pleaded guilty in May 2022. Sentencing for both drivers have been scheduled for September 2022.

A sentencing hearing for Suriel is scheduled for August 19th, 2022.
